Dryer fixed

Well the part came today. I tested it with the voltmeter and sure enough the other one was way off. The faulty part read around .88 Ohms which is nearly open. The correct one is around 50 KiloOhms. Upon receiving the new part, I noticed that a piece of our faulty one's housing had broken off exposing the internal parts. So, that should have been a dead giveaway that is "blew". The funny thing is I called a local appliance parts store and he tried to tell me there should be a thermistat and a thermal fuse on the blower housing. I told him no there is a just a thermistor. He was shocked by this and wanting to talk with me about it. Turns out he was a nerd.

I would like to thank RepairClinic.com, for their awesome customer service and advice. All you do is create an account with your appliance's model number. I was able to get instructions for free on how to disassemble my dryer. It was super easy. I also emailed them about what kind of results I was getting and they told me what to check. Turns out it was the thermistor that you can only get to by knowing how to remove the entire front panel. So, if you got an appliance problem, and are moderately handy I would try there first before calling the $75 repair callout. My total cost for repair was $40. Twenty of that went to a new voltmeter since my other one was broken. $10 went to shipping. And the part itself was only $10. After doing this even new dryers are extremely simply machines and every part is testable and replacable yourself.

Also, I would like to mention that newer digital appliances have special test sequences you can enter to perform tests. Once I opened the dryer I found an envelope that included the wiring diagram and how to enter the test sequence. That allowed me to test the heat so I knew the heating element wasn't bad. But the heat didn't kick on in normal drying cycles so I knew it was some kind of sensory problem.

Anyway, check out RepairClinic.com for any of your appliance repair needs.
