Some kind of normal

Well today turned out to be some kind of normal. Kyleigh ended up eating 300 cc (9 ounces) on her own from 10 to 8. That is nearly right on what they want her to eat. Right now we are still on the night feeds though. I am thinking once we get home I will start weening her off them as she starts to eat bigger bottles than just 2 ounces at a time. The biggest one today was 82cc and that is nearly 3 ounces which is pretty big for her. It so funny cause you can almost see her start fighting eating when she normally had to stop because of her breathing. Now she can push on thru that and continue to eat almost twice as much. I am very pleased with the eating, but still thankful for the night feeds. She is only getting around 300 cc at night right now anyway and I only plan to decrease that in the future at home.

They did bump her oxygen back up a little today to try and help with that one lung. Tomorrow they are going to do a sedation echo of the repair and also try to estimate her pulmonary flow. They said it was high post op and want to see if it has gone down any. Basically since her heart has run like a race horse the lungs try to slow that down by increasing the size of the arteries. After the correction the heart has to pump much harder and keep higher pressures to keep those arteries full and flowing. But with medication and time it should reverse itself and she grow into her arteries.

Her rythym is still off, but I think I can tell some slight changes in it today over when we were in the ICU. Especially when she is asleep so I think that is trying to correct itself as her heart heals. It should also help when the muscle tissue grows over her Gortex patches. If you saw that episode of Grey’s Anatomy or know a normal rythym she doesn’t have that really high peak followed by a low peak and then a hill bump. Instead her high peak and low peak are about the same size. She also still has the hill bump but every now and then has a second bump as well. Essentially her heart is firing the signal a little lower than the AV node and things are slightly mistimed in terms of pumping. Still not affecting her human dynamic though.

Tomorrow they will also stop her IV meds and switch them over to the oral form. The sedation echo they will stop her oxygen to get a worst case scenario. The results of that will probably determine when we go home. If worst case seems fine we will probably go home.

I am pretty convinced she is indeed teething now as she rubbed her gums for several hours today while she played. It looks like she is getting her vampire teeth first like Ross did. I just hope she doesn’t take as long as he did to get teeth in.

Look for the update tomorrow and hopefully the good news that we are getting out. The echo is at 2pm. Thanks everyone and I love to get on her and check the comments. Amber is also feeling better and was actually up and we watched Heroes tonight.

    Good news!!

Just wanted to let you guys know to call me if you need anything this weekend. I’m free if you need an extra pair of hands. If you just wanna be solitary and hunker down in your house, no problem either – that’s how I would be! But holler if you need anything.
