If they only knew…

Warning.. Crappy Iphone pics below! LOL

I used to be so scared of taking Ky anywhere and letting her touch things. I was always afraid she would get sick. As she is getting older its harder to keep her contained. She sat at the table staring at the playground SO patiently and was looking at it so longingly that I just had to let her go run and play. She had so much fun. She found another little girl who was about Owen’s age who buddied up with her and helped her come down the slide. After about 3 turns with the older girl Ky was all by her lonesome and loving it!! This Chick Fil A only opened about 2 weeks ago and still smells new. That helped to calm my OCD a little! LOL We will have to take the boys back and I am sure they would run themselves ragged in there!

I nearly cried standing there watching her running around and playing. Every time we go out somewhere people comment on how cute her “backpack” is and ask her “oh whatcha got in your backpack….?” I used to be one who tried to explain everything and go into detail. Now I find myself saying… “yeah she’s pretty cute in it” or “we think she’s like Dora the Explorer” and I leave it at that. Because the bottom line is… they don’t understand anyhow… why waste my breath? I smile and go on and they watch her run and play and never even know the journey that we have been on to get to this point. Part of me is kind of sad. I want people to know how hard Ky has had to fight to stay here. I want them to know that she defies all conventional wisdom… but then I realize… what a BLESSING is it to her that she is able to run and play and LOOK normal? It is a blessing that people look at me crazy when I am taking pics of my kid in the Chick Fil A playground because THAT is a big accomplishment for her, and for us! I cannot help but think… if they only knew. When she gets to school she will never have to be embarrassed or feel badly because she is different… because most of what has happened to her will never be known or seen. She will just be her. And THAT is amazing.
