Thrifty Thursday (on Friday!) For a long time I have wanted to start sharing “Thrifty Thursday” and I determined to do it and keep it up! So… if I fail … PLEASE hound me! LOL
So… its time to start planning and decorating for EASTER!!! I have decided this year that my Christmas tree is going to STAY UP! All year! Yes… I am a bit crazy but I LOVE my tree! I love its warm glow and twinkling lights and my house feels so empty without it!
So… in a week or so it will be converted from Valentines tree to Easter tree with tons of pastel pretty ribbons, eggs, bunnies, etc!
I have started saving my egg shells. My kids eat scrambled eggs about 3-4 times a week so that is a LOT of egg shells considering it takes me 4 eggs to feed them each time.
Blowing the egg out of the shell is NOT as hard as one would think!
1)Before we start you will need to prep. Sanitize the needle with alcohol. Rinse with dish soap and warm water. Get a small tack hammer (or as you can see I use whatever small heavy too is laying around! Today it was tin snips…). You will need this to hammer the needle into the eggshell. It is NOT easy to pierce and you basically have to hammer it in like putting a nail in the wall.
Shake the egg vigorously… I find this helps to break the egg away from the shell.
2) Using a large needle poke a pin hole in one end of the egg.
3) Flip the egg over and poke a hole a bit larger in the opposite end.
4) Use the needle and gently poke around inside the egg to PIERCE the yolk. You need to break the yolk up a bit before you try and blow it out or it will crack your shell into tons of pieces. After I poke around with the needle I usually cover both holes and shake vigorously.
5) Place the larger hole downward (this is the hole that the egg will exit through). Hold the egg with both hands. With steady firm pressure blow into the pin hole end.
6) Tada … egg in bowl ready to scramble. Eggshell ready to clean and paint!
7) Rinse eggshell by filling the larger end with water. I just use a tiny stream from the faucet. Shake the water around to clean inside and blow out the water.
Allow shells to dry and paint as you please.

what a cute idea the Easter tree. I would love to see your Valentine’s tree if you have pics. I loved blowing eggs when we were young. can’t wait to see them painted!
You truly are a red-headed Martha lol! Love the egg idea-might have to wait until we move b/c I have a feeling egg shells don’t travel well lol!
