The House that love built… Ronald McDonald House

Sorry I have been absent from Blog land so long.  Its been a BUSY summer and I have barely had time to breathe with all my wedding clients.  We have a bit of a break from now until September so hopefully I can get back to blogging regularly.  Thank you SO much for the emails, phone calls and messages that you have sent wondering about us!  Makes me smile to know that someone actually gives a hoot about this little old blog.

Because I have mastered the coupons in such a quick fashion I have come to accumulate a large stockpile of items rather quickly.  I cannot tell you how happy it makes me to know that I can feed my family for at least 3 months with what we have (maybe longer) plus have overflow that we are able to give away to bless others.

I had been trying to get to the Ronald McDonald house to donate the pop tabs that have been donated by so many (Thanks Alex and Anna!).  We donated nearly an entire rubbermaid tub of pop tabs!  YAY!

I hopped on the website to find the number to call.  I was just meaning to find out what the hours were for donations and I stumbled upon the house’s WISHLIST.  I could have cried.  Right there in front of me were listed things that they were in desperate need of…all of which I had EXTRA in my stockpile.

I have to say, if you do not have a charity that you regularly volunteer with, you should find one.  Being philanthropic is one of the greatest “high’s” you will experience in life.

It was decided… one Saturday morning in June (had a Friday evening wedding that week) we packed up the van.  Each of the kids took turns putting items that THEY wanted to donate into boxes and buckets.

We were able to donate at least 10 of each:

Kraft Ranch Dressing, Italian, BBQ, Mayo, Miracle Whip, A-1, (condiments were on their NEED list), Lysol cleaners, toilet, kitchen, sprays, glade sprays for the bathroom (the sensor kind), boxes of cereal, poptarts, mac n cheese.  Our family’s donation would have totaled close to $500 at full price.  With my coupons and savings I paid NO more than $20 out of my pocket.  I cannot even begin to tell you how my heart sings to watch my kids be SO excited.  The boys knew that this is where we stay when Ky is in the hospital.  They “get it” on some level which makes everything even sweeter.

So… I encourage you.  If you are looking for a worthy charity.  Please consider donating to the Ronald McDonald House.  It TRULY is the house that love built.  The people are truly amazing and are there solely to take CARE of you.  I remember being in Chicago, 6 inches of snow on the ground, devastated by the news of Kyleigh’s neurological status and coming back to the Ronnie House, cold, wet and out of hope.  We sat down to a hot meal and great conversation with another family (also patients of this neurosurgeon) and life seemed “ok” again.  I can only imagine the difference that the RMH has made on the lives of SO many.

That is so wonderful that you guys were able to do that. I’m still working on figuring out all this coupon stuff but we have saved some money. Ky just keeps getting bigger and bigger. Its wonderful to see her doing so well.

Hey Amber, so glad to see you’re back and that everything’s okay. I was starting to get worried! :) I too have a soft spot for the Ronald McDonald House after staying there when my sister was hospitalized for a month in Buffalo. They do great work.
