And about me……. 10 honest things…

1) I am WAY too addicted to many series TV shows this season!  I mean really when you MUST watch your  TIVO’ed episodes the same week because it fills your memory completely… that means you have too many!  (Seriously… House, Castle, Grey’s Anatomy, The Office, Community, Law and Order, NCIS, Eastwick, Modern Family, Cougar Town, and the list goes on… sigh).  It is one of the things Troy and I love to do together though, snuggle in our bed and watch our big ole TV…

2) I sleep with the TV on.  I have never been “afraid” of the dark I just need something to distract me when I am drifting off to dreamland.  I used to be scared that a Tornado would come through town and I just KNEW that if it came late at night Bill Meck (local weather guy) would make a bulletin on TV and I would somehow magically wake up and hear it!  As of late, its just to drown out the noise in my head… (won’t go there).

3) I wear flip flops in the snow.  No joke. Not just after pedicures (which I haven’t had in over a YEAR now!  sigh… thus is the nature of Dave Ramsey…) but like all the time!  I have recently switched to ballet flats (which I loved as a kid and STILL love now!)

4) My favorite piece of clothing is my 3/4 sleeve Zebra jacket!  I paid way more than my budget on it and have worn the life out of it and still can get rid of it!

5) I am a bit of a scrooge.  I just cannot bring myself to go into a Gymboree store when I know there is a Yard Sale, Ebay listing, Craiglist or Consignment shop out there that will have those items in them in less than 3 months for 1/4 of the price!!!  I know… its a sad state of affairs.  There is also something about the $9.99 price tag threshold… I think every piece of clothing I own (except the Zebra jacket) I paid $9.99 or less for!

6) I don’t eat Vegetables.  Like not any, ever, I do not like them Sam I am.  I do not like them on a plate.  I do not like them with a Steak!  The closest I come to veges are potatoes, corn and salsa!

7) I am smitten with polka dots.  I don’t care what atrocity of an item it IS… if its polka dotted it automatically looks better!Recent Comments:

I know that I have talked about Miss Eithene many times before.  Her mom, Jessica, and I have spent many late nights chatting about how our girls must have been separated at birth.  Eithene is still struggling with a great many issues and in light of my recent breakdown about germs from school I feel a little foolish.  Even in spite of all of Eithene’s medical challenges she will be attending pre-school soon.

My real reason for writing though is that Eithene’s family needs YOUR help.  I know that I have the best friends in the world and I try my best not to ask for donations or money but if you can find it in your heart, and wallets… I would like to ask for help for a friend.

I don’t want to go into too many details but suffice to say that this year has been and may continue to be rough as Eithene’s dad is a teacher and is having a hard time finding a teaching position.  Eithene needs a stroller / wheelchair like combo that is VERY expensive and is NOT covered by their insurance.  This would help out tremendously in their daily lives as well as school.

THIS is what she has to pack around with her at any given time to sustain life.  This is what she will have to take to SCHOOL with her everyday.  Can you imagine sending your child to school toting all of this?

eithene2Right now THIS IV pole is their only option for her being able to be mobile enough to go to school and try to live a normal life.  This stroller chair would make life incrementally better for her and for her family!!!

THANK YOU from the bottom of my heart.  It hurts me to see my friends struggle with all of this medical junk.  Our children never asked for this, nor did we.  But we find ourselves in the unique position to live life with bitterness or to live it more abundantly.  If anything I know, this is a family who chooses the latter!!!  As much as we have been through, this family has been through double that and is STILL there…. schmidts_0041The ONLY family picture of us in existence… I think.  I do honestly believe this is the only picture that exists with ALL five of us in one frame… without some photoshop magic.  I made it my goal to get ONE pic out of the beach of all of us and I think Daphne accomplished it beautifully… and in only 4 minutes with a heck of a STORM coming in!!!  It was truly insane!

And a great pic of me, Troy and Daphne… love ya girly!!! ( Do I look kind of high in the pic???  Geez… those meds were really still messing with me at the time… side effects on these suckers are KILLERS… let me tell you …)

To Daphne, Margie, Julie, and Cristy (and I am SURE more that I am missing… if I missed you you better speak up now before I get mad at you for not fessing up!)… you have no IDEA what each of you mean to me… I have no words.  LOVE YOU!!!

In honor of the fact that today is CARDIOLOGY day… Echo, EKG, labwork… the whole shebang, I thought I would participate in a Mr. Linky! Soon Ross and Ky will be moving into a shared room to give Owen some room to have a private room for homework and un-interrupted sleep when he goes to school. I managed to find some GREAT thrift store finds (or mom did) with green gingham Pottery Barn kids stuff. I had thought of having the duvet cover’s monogrammed with the kids name, but being the ever thrifty one…. decided that was not good for resale value! LOL So I thought… cute throw pillows and poof… I found this! In the right colors this would be adorable!

PLEASE PRAY!!! NOW!

Kayleigh was born at 1 lb. She is truly a miracle and after having had a g-tube placement and a nissen in preparation to leave the NICU it appears that a big section of Kayleigh’s cerebral cortex is not functioning. (Read: the doctors have little hope and believe that she is brain dead)

Kayleigh has already overcome SO many obstacles and her family has given up EVERYTHING… literally to keep her alive.

PLEASE Dear Heavenly Father… please work a miracle… please.

Today Tiffany found out that her mother has a brain anuerism and tumor. This is the second time. The first was in 2001 and it left her mom legally blind (no peripheral vision).

Just last week they received news that Zach’s grandfather was not well off and traveled to see him.

It has been a very challenging period in their lives and they could definitely use all the prayer support they can get!

PLEASE PRAY for this entire family!!!!!!!

I find some of the most amazing blogs. Crystal’s daughter, Bentley, has Tetralogy of Fallot. Bentley was diagnosed at 2 days old and will be having her open heart surgery in May.

Her blog really struck a chord with me because after surgery, Kyleigh’s cardiologist told us that what Kyleigh had was actually a half breed Anomaly. She really had both AV Canal AND TOF but there isn’t any known “condition” that includes them both. Ky had the thickening and obstructions that are characteristic of TOF but structurally she had enough parts missing that she was an AV Canal also. Yes… yet again my child is 5% or less… what can I say? When describing Ky we say AV Canal because its easiest to explain but knowing the depth of her heart’s condition … I feel for this family.

Some CHD facts from Bentley’s site:

  • Congenital heart defects are the #1 birth defect. Nearly one of every 100 babies is born with a CHD.
  • Congenital heart defects are the #1 cause of birth defect related deaths.
  • Congenital heart defects are the leading cause of all infant deaths in the United States.
  • Each year approximately 40,000 babies are born in the United States with a congenital heart defect. thousands of them will not reach their first birthday and thousands more die before they reach adulthood.

Also… please keep our little friend Bentley and her family in your prayers as her OHS date approaches. Ky’s first OHS dates is the day that marked “the rest of our lives” and there was really no turning back. I don’t remember much of the Colostomy surgery because I was less than 2 days postpartum and HEAVILY medicated! I always think of her OHS as our “first surgery”. I know that surgery is old hat for Ky now but there is something about that FIRST one that is just heart wrenching. To have your first be OHS… my heart just aches for them.Recent Comments:

MY dear friend Heather Woodward MADE this ensemble for Kyleigh last year!! Not only is she a fabulous photographer but she is one crafty hot mama! (ow ow ow- there’s yer cat call baby!~)

Each year us photographers try to get together and learn (err… drink and sing karaoke) and last year we were in Orlando, FL. It was a good time had by all. Heather brought Ky this adorable outfit and with her tiny little self she has taken her dear sweet time gaining enough to fit into it! More than a year later it FITS!
