Kyleigh’s room (Owen’s old room) is going to go from looking like this:

There are so many things in this that I adore Icannot even get started… the lamps, the pillows with feathers, the curtain, the monogrammed cornice and the chandelier… perfect!  I plan to bring many elements together in Ky’s room though…

Here are a bunch of my ideas… I have already purchased several things but I will have to see how they are all going to come together… won’t know until I get them in her room!

From the top left… wall paper in the closet!  I am seriously considering removing Kyleigh closet doors and putting curtains up.  If I do I will DEFINITELY put the wall paper in there somehow!  :)

Polka dot lampshade… I am covering a shade for a lamp she already owns!

Spray painted and embellished chandelier!!  I bought a $1 Chandelier at Habitat for Humanity Restore… I have already sprayed it a berry pink but I am thinking now that the berry is too pungent for the effect I want to achieve.  I am thinking of a ballet pink now…I will keep you posted!  In the second collage you can see the already sprayed pink chandelier and pink mirror frame.

I like the stripes on the walls but it is too much for Ky’s small room.  We are going with a more pastel pink BUT I do love the idea of the vinyl sticker on the wall over the bed!  I ended up buying a CHANDELIER vinyl and an Eiffel tower… don’t know which one will make the cut!  The other will find a home back at Hobby Lobby!  LOL

Of course the monogrammed cornice…. we are DOING one of those one way or another!  Debating on whether I want it over her window or over the closet… that probably also depends on what I do with her closet doors… so many decisions!

Kyleigh is also getting a netting tent thing over her bed that looks a lot like the pottery barn one.  That was her “must have” for the room.

The black sconces are going somewhere… who knows where!

Kyleigh is keeping her black furniture.  I was thinking of getting her baby bed out of storage and making it into a REAL bed but it makes a full and then she would not be able to fit anything else in the room!  So.. she is going to have a black twin bed with bedding that looks like the top right hand pic.  She also has another pillow like that Paris one that is bejeweled and says “Dream”  Perfectly appropriate if you ask me!

I love that big gawdy pink mirror… the mirror in the bottom right may become that but I think the color is going to definitely have to change.  Trying to wait and see what color ends up on the walls.

The pink paris knobs are going on her black dresser… those are Handpainted from Glamorous Kids Decor on Etsy :)   She has several designs and even a light switch cover that I am smitten with!

So I have been collecting and waiting to clear out her room, paint, lay floors and get started!  Spring break here we come!

We finally decided, after a half year with the boys in school and Kyleigh at home, that they boys wake her up WAY too early.  She would sleep almost 3 extra hours if she was not sharing a room with Ross.  Enter, NEW PLAN!  If there is one thing our family is never short on, it’s a PLAN (or ten).  Of course most of our life revolves around wedding season.  Considering we are coming into the single busiest wedding season we have ever had in the history of SS&G we also know that NOTHING is getting done this summer except working.  We tried construction all last summer and it was NOT pretty.  So on top of transforming two bedrooms.. we also need to get that done … BEFORE spring break.  Crazy?  Yes we know.

So anyway… on weekend #2 of our project here is how its coming along:

You will notice, to your right, the entire contents of the closet that is now hanging randomly in the room.  Also, dressers everywhere… NO idea where those are going now… but I am SURE I will find a place!  LOL

And then the NEW closets… boys don’t really need all THAT much closet space do they?  NO!  Kyleigh needs TRIPLE the closet space they do!  LOL

Owen’s new closet… we already owned the pieces we just reconstructed it into a smaller size!  COST:  $0, TIME:1 day  …. still needs drywall, sanding, painting, and the door installed.

Ross’ new closet which I SWEAR to you is only 2 inches smaller than Owen’s but for some reason looks much smaller.  Ross may end up with the bigger closet though because he does have more clothes than Owen.  Either way… it still needs work too obviously!  COST: $0, TIME: 1 day

Which leads us to the crowning glory of the room… the built in bunks!  Now these are VERY rough, they still need moldings, finish work, painting, etc but hey … the kids have to sleep somewhere!  Eventually these will be painted white there will be drawers in the holes under the bed to store legos, each boy with have his own wall mounted, swing arm lamp up by their heads for reading and their have TV’s that will mount at the feet.  THEN there will also be curtains installed so they can have privacy when they want it.  I think its the PERFECT compromise to have your OWN space inside a shared room.

This is the part of the story where I have to brag on my hubby just a little.  One of the things that amazes me the most about him is that he can figure out a way to make or do pretty much anything.  Troy literally looked at the images with and then, poof, cut and made this bed for them.  His mind is mechanically inclined and he is ALWAYS the first to test out new camera gear.  He usually ends up teaching ME how to use things because he catches on a LOT faster than I do.  Now you saw the photos above of our room… let it be known that my husband had NO instructions or plans for that bed.  He did it all by designing it in some kind of google software and then he created it totally from scratch.  When I sat down on Owen’s bed last night I thought to myself… WOW… this is the DARNED coolest thing I have ever seen.  I would have DIED to have this as a kid!  Our kids are, of course, smitten, and rightly so!  Late into last night we kept hearing giggles and seeing flash lights darting around the room.  I am sure the “new”ness will wear off soon but for right now they are totally elated which I am sure makes their daddy know it was all worth it!

The boys WILL have the lights like you see in the bunks here for reading.  I LOVED this style but it was WAY too dark for the size bedroom that it was going in!I LOVED that addition!  So ours will end up looking more like this:

But instead of Desks on either side, the boys have closets… pretty cool right?

So yes…much more work to do but already a lot done!  I will continue to post pics as we move along!  Right now our total for materials is LESS than the cost of what I sold the old bunk beds for so we are still ahead right now!  I did splurge and get the boys NEW mattresses which they will (hopefully) keep until they move out of our house!  I ended up getting a good deal on JUST the mattresses because I did not need the boxed springs!  I ended up getting TWO mattresses for less than the cost of ONE set of mattress and boxed spring combo.  I was happy with that because the mattresses are SUPER plush, 17 inches thick, padded foam walls, memory foam pillow topper…  I didn’t feel like $200 each was bad all things considered!  We tried to be economical and buy the $90 mattress but it was just so sad looking…  I don’t want my kids to grow up with back problems or aching bones because we we scrimped in the wrong places!Recent Comments:

SOLD !!!!!!!!!!!! http://family.kentuckystudio.com/2010/04/09/sold/ http://family.kentuckystudio.com/2010/04/09/sold/#comments Fri, 09 Apr 2010 18:15:47 +0000 Amber http://family.kentuckystudio.com/?p=11837 Going, going GONE!  The house is SOLD.  Meaning, signed, sealed, closed and done.  It was bittersweet but more sweet than bitter once that check was in hand.  I know that the money is already accounted for in paying off debt but it feels nice to know that we now have the ability to take care of some of the debts!!!!  We have a 6 month and a 1 year plan and when I write a post in 1 year from now (or sooner) we will be the proud parents of a fully “owned” child, and a debt free family!  (NOT EVEN A MORTGAGE!).  I never quite realized that the “American Dream” may not necessarily be our family’s dream.  Troy and I talked about this the other day and agreed that we are not really interested in OWNING a home again anytime soon, if ever.  Its just not our style.  We would much rather take that money and use it to save for retirement, college, and spend time enjoying LIFE.  We have spent so much of our lives “planning” for bigger and better things that we never got around to doing them.  NOW… we are going to stop wishing and start DOING!  We cannot wait to see our kids play sports, go to dance recitals, and TRAVEL!  We are hoping to head back to the coast very soon but we also know that we are not going ALLOW ourselves that luxury until we are done paying off debt.

For us, we are in a new phase.  We are going to have to “deal” with a lot of issues that we have been putting on the back burner and muddle through those things to bring our finances back to where they once were.  BUT… we are willing and able to make the sacrifices it takes to get there.  Obviously… we sold our house to do it!  We, of course, have never been perfect in our finances but who really has.  We have made a few bad decisions and coupling that with such a huge blow through medical bills and stays… it just a hole we are digging our way out of.  The good news is we are now 72% OUT of that hole and 72% debt free!

As we were moving we were talking with our friends who helped us move, one of whom is from Canada.  He said he just thought it was a crying shame that anyone would have to loose their house to keep their child alive and that is very true.  We have felt the same way for a while now.  For a while we have struggled to make ends meet and keep our family in the house but at some point it becomes more trouble than it is worth.  We have called and begged and written letters and the best our mortgage company could “do” for us was to continue growing interest and say “have you thought about selling your house?”…. I wish that President Obama would start “bailing” out some americans who truly NEED the help but that is another rant for another day!

Better news:  The new owners of the house LOVE it.  They love everything about it and it is PERFECT for them.  We are so glad that we were able to find buyers to truly love the house and plan to make it their family home for many years to come.  They moved right in and have settled into their new routine.  The closing, last Monday morning, was supposed to happen the Thursday of our move, but got pushed due to paperwork issues.  At any rate, it’s done now, everything went smoothly and we are moving right on.  Today’s task in my world is to unpack and re-organize my bathroom into the NEW space that I have… very different from the last but I will just have to find new organizational systems.  It is, like everything in life, a process!

We are very happy, and relieved to be done with the stress of selling, marketing, closing etc.  We have a very true sense of comfort in knowing that we were HELD through it all and that this whole selling process was nothing short of a miracle.  To sell so fast… for such a great price… with no “concessions”… it was a blessing that we cannot dispute was DIVINE.  We had been praying for our buyers for many months.  In the months leading up to putting our house on the market (from about November on) we had begun to pray that the new owner’s would be blessed.  That their finances and life situation would lead them to a place that would include making our house their home.  We prayed that God would remove any hindrances and that he would begin to bless their fiances with abundance.  We will continue to pray this for their family and know that we have been able to sell them a house that will be good to them for many years to come.

Saying SOLD!!!!!!!! puts a smile on our faces!  That is a huge weight off our shoulders but due to renovations we are all living on TOP of each other and on top of tons of BOXES so that is a bit of added animosity.  I know this too shall pass and we will be back to life.  We are making a NEW kind of life for ourselves and are happy to be moving on to a new phase of life.  Thank you so much for all of the prayers, emails, messages, texts and calls of support.  It was not an easy decision or an easy move but we did it and like everything else in our life we are ALL THE BETTER for it!  We are blessed so richly and can ask for little more in our lives!Recent Comments:

And it sure did. I know that God will take care of us. I know that He has set forth a plan and I know that our faith is strengthened and our testimony is built by these trials. It never feels good but I am trying my (humanly) best to trust him. Today is a GORGEOUS day… sunny, perfect temperature… amazing. I had a bridal shoot with the bride that we will be accompanying to Negril in May for her wedding and her dress was stunning, she was stunning … it was perfect. Every single time I do a shoot I remember just how much I LOVE photography. I really really do. I hate the “business” of it but the art itself I am still very much in love with. It makes me feel alive and like I am making a viable contribution to the world.



On the BRIGHTER side of things… my kitchen is almost green but I must tell you about my DISASTER of a paint color… I am telling you it was florescent!! I turned off the light but the color kept glowing. It HAD to go… notice the THREE shades on the wall?


At any rate the kitchen will be DONE 90% this weekend and I will post the before and after on monday! YAY! Wish us luck!

Also say a prayer that our old kitchen table and chairs sell for what I am asking for it. That would make our NEW craigslist kitchen set a wash and that would be a GREAT thing in our world. If you are local and looking for a new kitchen set, we have a GREAT one for sale on CL! I would love to see the set go to someone we know or a friend from bloggy land!

As for plans… Ross is going to have blue and green gingham or red and green I still have not decided yet. With the green duvet cover I am going to take it and have an 8 inch “K” monogrammed on it. The melon patterned sheet will be used to make pillows and another blanket for Ky’s bed. THEN… I am going to find some gingham sheets and pillowcases for Ross’ bed to have HIS name put on!

I basically got ALL of the linens for Ross and Ky’s beds for $17. I am happy as a peach!

Oh and just in case you missed that… we are moving Ross and Ky into the same room to try and avoid having owen wake them up in the AM getting up for School. That plus the fact that if we have to sell this house we want to buy something smaller and be less strapped with a house payment so we will likely move back to a 3 bedroom as that is basically what we are living in now. Thirdly… Ross and Ky are best buddies! Sometimes they sleep in the same bed for nap anyhow so it really will work just fine.Recent Comments:

So I posted a few days ago that if you could correctly GUESS what Troy was painting then you won a prize! Well my dear friend Mindy, guessed perfectly! NEW KITCHEN CABINETS! If you had also guessed a black kitchen TABLE then you would have also been right!

My kitchen cabinets were custom made by Troy and my dad about two years ago. They did a fabulous job but in the rush to finish them they were not properly finished. They should have been sanded about 3 extra times and finished twice more and THEN sealed. So neither Troy or myself have ever really LOVED them. When we first designed the kitchen I had debated on black cabinets but I thought they would look “home made”. I couldn’t have been further from the truth. Troy has really come a long way in making his project look truly professional! We have had a compressor for years and had attempted to spray some things and just did not get it right. This time he definitely got it right!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

The pic was taken really late at night… when I have some natural light and when all of the cabinets are done I will post better pics but they are SUPER chic and very modern looking! I am ecstatic! Every time I open one I think… yummy! Truly I love them! I found the silver hardware at Home Depot and because I was able to buy in bulk I got ALL the hardware for only $75!!!!!!!!!! We have a TON of cabinets so that was huge. I also bought this hardware MONTHS ago but with Ky being sick and the holidays we put the cabinet plans on hold. So…. spring has come and a FOR SALE sign will likely be going in our front yard soon. Its time to get it right!

Coming SOON to the kitchen… the RED WALLS are going green! YAY!

Mindy… you win THIS:

We all struggle with keeping our houses smelling good! I have a new found love for this sense and spray and a long time love of the wallflowers! I am also sticking in a Bath Buddie for Ellie!
